Lorcán Galvin

BSc Physiotherapy, MSc Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy MISCP, MMACP

Lorcán graduated from the University of Limerick in 2006 with a Bachelors of Science in Physiotherapy.

Since graduating he has gained extensive experience working in both the public and private sectors in Ireland and Australia. Throughout his career Lorcán has maintained a committment to professional development completing training in Spinal Manual Therapy, Dry Needling and Sports Specific Rehabilitation to name but a few.

Lorcán has a keen interest in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of athletes of all ages. He has been team physiotherapist to League of Ireland Soccer team Limerick F.C, U.L. Eagles Super League Basketball team, Galway U-21 Hurlers as well as various gaelic football, hurling, soccer and rugby clubs. Lorcán believes in sports specific screening for injury prevention and rehabilitation and challenges patients with high level return to play (RTP) rehabilitation programs ensuring they not only get back playing, but they get back performing to the highest level.

Lorcán regularly sees patients before and after surgical procedures on the neck/back, joint replacements of the hip and knee along with tendon/ligament repairs of the shoulder, knee and ankle. He has experience in Occupational Health Physiotherapy and continues to help patients and staff overcome musculoskeletal issues ensuring a safe and pain-free return to work.

In 2015 Lorcán was awarded a Masters in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University. His dissertation on nerve-related neck and arm pain has been accepted for presentation at a prestigious international Physiotherapy conference (IFOMPT 2016, Glasgow). He was also granted membership to the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) which is an organisation that recognises excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with complex musculoskeletal conditions. He is a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP)

Lorcán is committed to providing the highest level of care for his patients and maintains close working relationships with GP’s, Orthopaedic Surgeons and Sports Medicine Physicians as well as other health professionals to ensure the goals of his patients are met.

Diarmuid Carney

BSc Physiotherapy, MSc Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy MISCP

Diarmuid graduated from Leeds Beckett University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy. Since graduating Diarmuid has gained experience in both the public and private sectors in Ireland. On graduating Diarmuid worked in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he gained extensive experience in the core areas of physiotherapy while also working in private practice in the Dublin area.

Over the past 10 years Diarmuid has worked between University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital, as well as in private practice. As part of his role working in the Galway University Hospitals Diarmuid has worked closely with the consultants and other members of the multidisciplinary team in ensuring clients reach their rehabilitation goals.

Diarmuid has an interest in all levels of rehabilitation and has recently established a rehabilitation programme for people with hip and knee osteoarthritis in the Merlin Park. Throughout his career Diarmuid has maintained a high level of continuous professional development in order to ensure his clients enjoy the best quality care possible.

Diarmuid comes from a strong sporting background and has represented his club and county in Gaelic Football at all levels in the past. Diarmuid was a member of the Roscommon Senior Football team who won the Connacht Senior Football Final in 2010. Now living in Oranmore, Diarmuid continues to be actively involved in the GAA playing, and coaching with the Oranmore Maree GAA club.

Brian Heneghan

MSc Physio, BSc Athletic Therapy and Training, MISCP

Brian graduated from University of Limerick with an MSc in Physiotherapy. Prior to pursuing this graduate degree, he completed a BSc in Athletic Therapy and Training in Dublin City University.

After graduating as a physiotherapist in 2019 Brian has worked across public and private sectors in both Ireland and the UK. In the UK based in London he worked primarily in primary care musculoskeletal services and occupational health in the management and rehabilitation of work-related injury and pain.

Since returning to Ireland he has been employed as a physiotherapist within Galway University Hospitals across both the Merlin Park and GUH campuses. Currently working in Merlin Park helping people recover and rehabilitate following traumatic orthopaedic injuries and elective surgery such as total hip or knee replacements, knee ligament reconstructions and shoulder stabilisation procedures. In this role he works closely with the consultant orthopaedic surgeons and other healthcare professionals. Prior to this he gained 12 months experience working in the specialist hand, plastic, and reconstructive surgery physiotherapy team based in GUH.

Brian also has a keen interest in sports injury rehabilitation. He has significant experience working in elite sporting environments having spent time in the US with both Boston Children’s Hospital Division of Sports Medicine and Stanford University Sports Medicine Athletic Department. At Stanford he gained exposure with a wide range of sports teams including men’s and women’s soccer, track and field, wrestling and lacrosse. At home he has recent experience working with Mayo GAA academy and U20 squad’s.
